The 2010 production will be "The Wedding Singer"
Synopsis:
It’s 1985 and rock-star wannabe Robbie Hart is New Jersey's favorite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party - until his own fiancé leaves him at the altar. Shot through the heart, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. Only trouble is Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and unless Robbie can pull off the performance of the decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.

Auditions will be the weekend of the 30th/31st of January.
Lead auditions this year are "closed auditions" with those interested required to ring Mark Smith on 65721530 to make a time for that weekend.
In the show there are nine lead roles with the roles of Robbie, Julia, Holly and Glen being the four more major roles.
- Robbie Hart: Mid to Late twenty's - Character goes from extreme joy at the thought of getting married to depression at being dumped at the alter then rebounds to make for a happy ending. Vocally he is involved in most songs throughout the show - Audition Songs for Robbie are "It's your Wedding Day" and "If I told you" (could be an advantage to play guitar).
- Julia Sullivan: Mid to late twenty's - A quiet and good natured character that travels through the show with a devotion to her boyfriend then fiancé Glen until she gets kissed by Robbie when she realises that Glen might not be the right man for her. Vocally Julia is involved about ten numbers - Audition Songs for Julia are "Someday" and "If I told you".
- Holly: Mid to Late twenty's - Best friend and cousin to Julia, much wilder and more out there has an ex-flame Sammy but is the person that Julia goes to to discuss those girl problems. Vocally Holly is involved in three songs and her audition song is - "Saturday Night in the City".
- Glen Gulia: Glen is Julia's fiancé and is a money man on his way up the Wall St market ladder he is obviously good at his job but knows it. He comes across to the audience as the character that they dislike. His audition song - "All about the Green" is fairly funky and should be a highlight of the show.
- Sammy & George (Robbie Band Members): Sammy plays the bass in the band (but doesn't have too) and throughout the show pursues his ex-girlfriend Holly, while giving support and encouragement to his best friend Robbie through his breakup, while George is the quiet gay keyboard player who is just always there for support of his friends and also to keep the band together. Together they are on and off stage regularly and are important to maintaining the continuity of the show. Audition song for both these characters is "Single" but both are involved in five or six songs.
- Rosie: Is Robbie's grandmother and naturally is the family support for Robbie as he goes through his ups & downs. This is a cute role that gets to say all those things that the audience is thinking. Vocally she is involved in a few songs, with her audition number being "A note from Grandma" but also it is important to note that she does sing a rap number near the end of the show with George called "Move that Thang".
- Linda: Is Robbie's fiancé who leave him at the alter and sends his life in to despair she then comes back later in the show wanting to return to the relationship only to find that Robbie has moved on. She is involved in three songs throughout the show. Linda will need to sing "A note from Linda" & "Let me come home" for her audition.
As for the cast or ensemble of this show, they have a very major part to play, there are lots of small parts that get intermingled with both dialogue and song, the music while very eighties, will have to be both loud and strong to tell the story. Some of our older members may not be as confident in their abilities when it comes to choreography or movement, but we still need these people for their vocal strength and quality, so don't dismiss the idea of having a go and maybe learning something new. At the end of it there is no better feeling than a friend coming up to you and saying "I never new you could do that"!
The first cast get together will be early in February when we will sing a few songs and have listen to a few voices. While nothing can be set in stone at this stage I hope for an ensemble of about twenty to twenty five plus the nine leads taking the cast numbers on stage to between thirty and thirty five.

Like all shows this show will have it's own challenges, what seems to be straight forward and simple probably won't be, and what may look to be a huge challenge may not be worth worrying about. This show is busy, it has lots of scene changes, and with it's contemporary feel it will need to keep moving throughout so as to give it that professional performance feel that SATS have become known for giving.
I understand that this show is stepping out of the box for us and there is no one more nervous about its outcome than me, I only ask that everybody gives it their support and gives it a chance so the people of Singleton can once again see we can turn our hands to anything.

Thanks to everyone who supported our production of Beauty and the Beast. It was an extremely successful season for us where we had some of the best crowds and best feedback we have ever had.
Congratulations to the cast, crew and everyone involved in the production and presentation of the show. Job well done.
It was a lot of fun.
